Germany is thinking of introducing a tax on every spin of an online slot

According to some reports, a working group was recently formed in Germany, which included the ministries of finance of four states. They are drafting a bill that would have an 8% tax on every online slot spin, as well as a 5.3% tax on online poker games.

The German Federal Ministry of Finance did not comment on the received data and only said that amendments to the current gambling legislation are now being considered. Industry representatives, of course, are unhappy. After all, presumably it is not even about the tax on the income received by the operator, but on the rate.

It turns out that operators will be forced to offer slots with RTP significantly lower than usual in order to compensate for the loss and make a profit. So, if the standard RTP is now about 96%, then the slot should theoretically return about 88%. Naturally, in this scenario, an outflow of players to other markets is predicted.

Changes are being prepared for the launch of a new order of organizing online gambling in Germany. From July 1, 2021, instead of just one federal land, all 16 will legalize this activity and uniform laws will be introduced.
